new season = new clothes [this is somewhat critical due to the ever changing new england climate]
after paying vital expenses such as rent, bills, food, dog bones etc. – there is little money left for things you may desire…such as a new wardrobe.
fear not… this is actually a great time to be CREATIVE.
i generally dislike all of the "Must Haves" and "Look for Less" columns. i'm thinking that this "recession" is a great time to break out your own personal style. dig through that catastrophic closet of yours and re-evaluate what you already have. you may find several items you completely forgot existed. cut things up. sew stuff together. turn sweaters into dresses and dresses in to shirts. be like my friend Raquel… go to different places of nature for inspiration – crunchy style (you know I love you). Create, innovate, whatever – just do your own thing.
oh and of course.. tights are cheap and won't be the next trend out the window (cough cough leather leggings... )

well sorry rosa, I LIKE IT. hahah
maybe it's my love for tights combined with my love for cutoffs. paired with the right top, i actually think it looks great.
i'm sure you've heard of The Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints through the headlines in the news (hundreds of children were moved from a compound due to abuse and well.. all kinds of other crazy ish - really sad.) if you were lucky, you might have caught a picture or video of the women.
these women went on to make the best out of a bad situation - i guess. they have their own website where you can actually by their BEAUTIFUL dresses. where did the idea come from exactly? well, the women were expected to make clothing for the children who were taken into custody, but after the children were returned to their families, the women decided to continue to make clothing--this time for profit.
interested? check out the "FLDS fashion" ... the sleeves kill me
i found this video below quite entertaining.
Project Runway fashion guru Tim Gunn and comedian Mo Rocca dissect the fashion missteps by the denizens of the Yearning for Zion polygamist compound in Texas.
if you know me - you know that i like to keep things quite simple (well i seem to think so). i happen to love the look of a simple white tank dressed up with a high waisted black skirt, or jumper etc. All three girls in the photo draw attention to their black skirts and strappy heals with a skinny white tank. the contrast between the two are always eye catching.
also, pairing a sequin or leather bottom with a cotton top creates a look that isn't overly dressy but fun.

Flight of the Conchords Second Season. YES.
Rihanna is clearly wearing the patch for a show. That's one thing. But is Beyonce wearing these on the streets? No.
Short minis, short dresses, short shorts with tights. Yes. Peaches Geldof British Socialite, Yes.
Plaxico Burress shooting himself in the leg. No. Visor tilted to the side. Also, no.
Ashley Tisdale accenting her all black look with thigh-high boots and a fendi bag. A simple outfit can be tweaked simply with a bag, scarf or shoes etc. Love the Fendi bag. Yes.
for those of you that don't know...
Auto-Tune is a proprietary audio processor created by Antares Audio Technologies that uses a phase vocoder to correct pitch in vocal and instrumental performances. It is used to disguise inaccuracies and mistakes and has allowed many artists to produce more precisely tuned recordings.
It's not like i hate auto-tune... I understand that it's a tool used by many artists to correct pitch and enhance vocal expressiveness. There are many songs that I love which include the use of auto-tune. But I feel like this tool is being somewhat abused to the extent where it's starting to bother me. From Kanye to Lil' Wayne to everyone and their parents.
I'm just thinking 2009 might be a good time to calm with this auto-tune craze.
I take comfort in knowing that Jay-z would never come out with an album largely abandoning rap in favor of digitally altered crooning.
